My bio:

Heather Hall is a national cancer advocate, speaker and writer.

A three-time cancer survivor, Heather is focused on living life to the fullest. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma at 21, melanoma at 27 and breast cancer at 43, she is committed to sharing her story to help others facing this disease and working to make a positive difference in the fight against cancer. Heather’s sister is also a melanoma survivor and her dad died from multiple myeloma, motivating her even more.

Heather has spoken at events across the country and led sessions and programs relating to sharing your cancer story, communication strategies and community involvement. She helped plan a national conference for young adult cancer survivors and served on several committees to help improve patient care and survivor plans.

One of her greatest passions is cancer advocacy and helping in the fight against the disease. Heather has participated in advocacy events at the local, state and federal levels since her bone cancer diagnosis. She regularly meets with legislators and staff to advocate for research, new treatment options, preventive screenings and access to affordable care. She currently serves as a national LIVESTRONG leader and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network team lead volunteer for the 9th Congressional District in Michigan, and volunteers for many organizations, including the Cancer Support Community, National Coalition of Cancer Survivors and Imerman Angels.

Heather earned a B.S. in journalism from Central Michigan University and a M.A. in communications from Wayne State University. Her professional background includes leadership positions in healthcare, nonprofit, financial and education. She has also served on numerous nonprofit boards.

She hosts a blog, Heather’s Hangout (www.heathershangout.com), to share life as a cancer survivor, offering tips and resources related to the cancer journey, and also about travels, activities and more to inspire and remind people that there is life beyond cancer.

Heather lives in the metro Detroit area and is an avid cyclist and hiker. She loves to be active in the outdoors, is determined to travel to see as much of the world as she can and enjoy every day.
